Oobleck, founded in 2008, is an original, analog funk band out of the Capital Region of NY. Our funk is that raw, in your face, booty shaking funk. Gritty funk, mixed with the poly-rhythms of afrobeat, plenty of spacey weirdness and improvisation, the sensibilities of jazz and blues, the blast beats of hardcore, and the distortion of grunge. That my friends, is the recipe for Oobleck. Oh, and if you can’t dance to it, Oobleck doesn’t play it. No gimmicks, just horns and funky beats to get your feet moving.
“Sometimes they pump out the stone-cold soul-funk of the JBs. Sometimes they veer into the Afro-funk of Fela Kuti. And sometimes – especially on the album closers “Funk Sucker” and “Waiting for Ryan” – they head off into Frank Zappa’s Grand Wazoo territory.” Nippertown! 10-12-2012
Known regionally for inciting dance parties wherever they land, Oobleck has had the fortune of sharing the stage with the likes of New Orlean’s greats Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Bonerama. In addition, they’ve played with Toubab Krewe, Ikebe Shakedown, and have graced the stage at Club Helsinki, The Precipice Festival, Gathering of the Vibes’ Blackrock Rocks benefit, and coveted club spots at Burlington VT’s Discover Jazz Festival.
