Oobleck Update – Sept-October, 2015

We hope this month is treating you well.  The weather has been beautiful and as the gentle turning of the season continues we hope to see you out at some shows this fall!

Albany First Friday – Fork in the Road

Join us at the last Fork in the Road for the season, a food truck event hosted by Albany BID that will take place at Tricentennial Park on Broadway.  The event features several food trucks andOobleck will be playing 6-8pm.  Come get some grub and enjoy some funk!

The Local Harvest Festival was started by the Honest Weight Food Co-op in 2009 as a way to bring all of the amazing local vendors our region has to offer off our shelves and into the greater community.  Now in its seventh year, the festival has grown to feature over 50 local farms, vendors, businesses and a slew of great local bands.

A local friend of ours is putting together a benefit for young local guitar student who has Cystic Fibrosis.  Oobleck is helping out at by closing out the evening with some funk!  There is a guitar recital in the afternoon, followed by two bands, Organized Chaos first up and then Oobleck.
Casual food (pizza, wings, sliders, etc), cash bar, silent auction.  $20 adult ticket, $10 for kids under 12.  Come support a good cause that will help out Cole!

I know, it’s a Thursday, but we’re really excited to play with this 10-piece funk band from LI. Oobleck will be hitting first, followed by Ladies Drink Free.  Come out and dance with us!  We all need your support more than ever!

In Skerik’s words, “I’ve always been inspired by Fela Kuti and Steve Reich, which sparked the idea to start a band built around rhythmic and minimalist concepts. It’s not about soloing so much as creating a polyrhythmic weave with the four instruments. Music that is danceable but also interesting to listen to.”

A bold assertion, but one for which the music bears witness. Together, the quartet syncopates and snakes, floats free and snaps tight with hypnotic afrobeat rhythms, minimalist canons and improvised harmonics. There’s a duality that demands listeners both dance and get lost in the sound.

Oobleck Update – 6/15

Hello friends,
We are very very very excited to announce our new album Don’t Mistake the Barn with the Basement is complete!  We will have two upcoming CD Release shows – first this coming Friday at Radio Bean in Burlington, VT, and later in the month at the Parish Public House in Albany, NY.
The album contains 12 original tracks and in addition to being available at our upcoming shows will be available online at our bandcamp page (http://oobleckfunk.bandcamp.com/) in the coming weeks.

Oobleck Update – 4/15

Hello friends,
Spring is here (despite the brisk 38 degrees at the moment).  We’ll be playing a free show tomorrow in the South End of Albany, join us if you can, it’ll be a balmy 57 degrees (no promises).  May will be quiet, our bassist Sam will be away on work adventures and we’ll be finishing up the production work on the album, but summer is shaping up and we hope to see you all very soon!  If you see shows below that friends might enjoy help spread the word – forward and share!

Oobleck Update – 3/15

Hello friends,
What a long, long winter it has been!  The good news is Oobleck has been hard at work recording our new album, we hope to have an official release later this spring, but consider this March 28th show not only a long awaited return to Troy, but also a sneak peek of some brand new songs.
In addition to working away at the new album, we want to congratulate Scott (sax) and his wife Katie (fantastic photographer) on the birth of their son, Theo.  Theo came into the world on January 29th and already has a remarkable tolerance to barking dogs and loud sax noises (and is ridiculously cute).  Congrats Scott and Katie!
To hold you over until next time here’s a really fun (rough) clip of one of our new ones, Whiskey Song, we played on NYE at Pauly’s – I have to say though, the break dancers might have stolen the show 🙂

Oobleck Update – 12/14

Hello friends,

The holidays are upon us and Oobleck has one more show up our sleeves for 2014 – New Year’s Eve!

We’ve put together a fantastic triple bill with Doctor Magnum and The Assortment of Crayons.  Between the three of us it’ll be a mix of Funk, Jazz, Rock and Jam.  We’ll be premiering a host of new songs we’ve been working on for the past few months in anticipation of recording our new album.

Oobleck Update – 11/14

Hello friends –
Thanks to all who made it out to our very very rainy Thacher Park gig – it was cold, it was rainy, but there was funk!  Next week we’ll be back in the Capital Region joined by a great funk band, The Phryg (fridge), from Brooklyn.  I know it’s a school night but we’ll be hitting first and have some brand new songs to share with you.

It’s hard to keep up with websites when your working on new tunes. Working on new tunes is also hard, however we have been writing some new material. Working on quality rather then quantity and trying to expand our musical ability which is what it’s all about. Anyway here are some clips of some transitions we are working on… It’s a bit rough but we’re working on it.

Oobleck Update – 8/14

Quick update for the end of the summer – this Friday we’ll be back in New Paltz at Bacchus with a really great jazz/funk band from Hopewell Junction, Funk Ronin.  Next week we’ll finally be playing Troy again at the Ruck for the Rockin’ on the River after-party, that one’s free!!
