Hello friends –
After a short hiatus Oobleck’s hitting it hard this February with three big shows. We’ve spent the last few months getting to know our new bass man, Sam Parker. After some great years with Nick he’s moved on to a new project., Rival Galaxies. They’ve got some wild sounds and put on a straight up dance party.
But when one door closes another one opens. Sam’s been bringing the heat and we’re ready to take it on the road. After a stint in New Paltz with Balls Deep we’re headed back to Burlington to play at Nectars. We’ll be finishing out the month with a Mardi Gras celebration at the Black Rocks Festival in Connecticut.
Here’s a taste of what’s to come. I’ll funk you so hard you’ll make the Cosby face!

This weekend is the 3rd annual Hudson Music Festival. If you’ve never been to Hudson you’ve been missing out and there’s no better excuse than a free, three day, music festival with over 400 musicians involved.
Get your Oobleck fix Saturday at 4pm on the 200 Block Stage. (215 Warren St., Hudson NY, 12534) After last May’s show at Club Helsinki we’re pumped to rock Hudson again. Speaking of rocking, does anyone remember that little waltz we played at The Ruck last Wednesday. A waltz… we’re so dignified.
For the early birds out there you can catch the Hudson Band Camp run by your’s truly, Scott Vorwald. Hosted by Club Helsinki and sponsored by the music festival and Operation Unite the band camp offers children in Hudson a free summer jazz band program. This year the students also received African drumming lessons from the Kuumba African Drumming and Dance Company. You can catch members of Oobleck joining them for a 2nd line in the Black Arts & Culture Festival parade at 1:45 then we’ll be playing around 2:30pm at the Waterfront Park. Come cheer on the young musicians of Hudson!
Come out to The Ruck Wednesday and get your dance on for our Rockin’ On The River after party. They’ll be two sets of Oobleck and the best beer selection in the Capital District. (RIP Mahars) Don’t forget to eat the wings too. Here’s a taste to get those dancin’ feet moving.
Ok…this one’s got some rough spots but it also has some fine moments. Here’s a little glimpse into our writing process. Nick finds a funky line, Bill and Kevin coalesce around it, then the horns find the key and start blurting out ideas. Keep an ear out for some of these horn lines in “The Morph.” Coming soon to a stage near you.
We’ll be back at Club Helsinki in Hudson this Friday. If you’ve never been there be sure to come out and enjoy what is probably the best venue north of NYC. Great food, great drinks, great people, great music. Enjoy the spring weather with a stroll down Warren street. Then come inside for some dancing.
And while your here check out the this killer breakdown from the last Valentines show.
